  • 50 years from the beginning of the production process in Slatina
  • Investments of over USD 500 million, in the past 10 years
  • Production of over 9.2 million tonnes of electrolytic aluminium, from 1965 until now
  • Production of over 9.5 million tonnes of cast aluminium: ingots, billets, slabs, wire rod, since the beginning of the activity

Slatina, 29 June 2015 – Alro SA (BSE: ALR, “The Company” or “Alro”), one of the largest aluminium producers in Central and Eastern Europe, invested over USD 500 million to modernize and to increase the efficiency of its operations. The Company will continue to focus on the increase of the production capacity for high added value products and the improvement of the technology.

“This year, we celebrate 50 years since we started producing aluminium in Slatina and we are proud that we managed to achieve excellent performances, thanks to our vertical integration strategy and production diversification, focused on high added value aluminium”,said Gheorghe Dobra, General Manager Alro Slatina. “In 50 years we managed to become a major aluminium producer in Central Europe, a trustworthy partner for our clients and suppliers, a responsible employer and a good tax payer at the state and local budget”.

As a result of the upgrading and technological investments, Alro reached a production capacity of 265,000 tonnes for primary aluminium, 340,000 tonnes for cast aluminium and 96,000 tonnes for processed aluminium.

Since 1965, until now, Alro produced over nine million tonnes of aluminium, diversifying the products portfolio and decreasing the specific energy consumption, together with increasing the productivity per employee.

Alro will continue to modernize its operations, having a budget of USD 59 million for 2015. This focuses on the increase of the unit’s efficiency, as well as the recycling capacity, together with extending the products portfolio. In the past 10 years, after investments of over USD 500 million, out of which USD 100 million for environment protection projects, the Company upgraded its equipments to remain competitive on international markets, but also to comply completely with the environment regulations.

“In the future, we want to continue the development program on medium and long term, with the support of a strategy which proved correct in the past years”, said Marian Nastase, President of the Board of Alro. “Currently, we are confident that we can reach our targets for the next period and we hope to continue registering good performances for our operations”.

Alro continues the investment programme focused on reducing the energy dependence by increasing the energy efficiency and the capacity of the Eco scrap facility targeting in a first stage 50,000 tonnes per year. For 2015, Alro budgeted scrap re-melting of 67,000 tonnes and, thus, the energy consumption will decrease by 90% for this quantity, compared to the production process of electrolytic aluminium.

Another direction of the development program regards the production increase for the high added value products segments, both for primary, but also for processed aluminium. Thus, for the primary aluminium, Alro increased the production high added value aluminium, to 98%, from 70%, in the past 10 years. For the processed aluminium, the entire production has high added value and 40% of this has higher added value, for industries such as the aeronautical or defense.
